Radiography
Image quality is the pivotal point for an accurate, meaningful diagnosis during fluoroscopy and radiology exams. Viewmont Medical Services has installed a new fully digital Fluoroscopy suite and radiology services. We offer a convenient walk in policy for general radiology exams with extended evening hours. In order to better serve your needs, we schedule all fluoroscopy exams.
The following exams can be performed at Viewmont Medical Services:
Intravenous Program
This examination is designed to test the function and examine the anatomy of the kidneys, ureters, and bladder. It is typically ordered for people who have or are suspicious for kidney stones. The test may also be ordered to evaluate blood in the urine (hematuria) or Urinary Tract Infections (UTI). This test requires an injection of a contrast agent. Following the injection, the technologist will take a series of X-ray at timed intervals to evaluate the excretion of the contrast. The radiologist will review the images. The exam will take approximately 20-30 minutes.
Preparation:
- Pick up your prep kit at Viewmont Medical Services or your doctors office 2 days prior to your scheduled appointment.
- Please follow all directions as listed on the package beginning the day before your scheduled test.
- If you are over the age of 55, your doctor will need to order a blood test to include a BUN and creatinine. This blood test is essential to evaluate your kidney function prior to the exam.
Upper GI
These tests evaluate the anatomy of the gastrointestinal tract and are helpful in the detection of cancer, ulcers and other conditions. They are often ordered for patients who complain of a variety of symptoms including: abdominal pain, heartburn, diarrhea, swallowing difficulty, weight loss, blood in the stool, or anemia. During the exam you will be asked to drink liquid barium suspension while the radiologist captures a series of images with the fluoroscopy unit. You will be asked to move into various positions in order to evaluate the anatomy. The liquid barium suspension is an inert substance, meaning it will pass directly into you stool without being absorbed by your system. Since the barium may cause constipation. The Upper GI series and Barium Swallow examinations typically take 10-20 minutes. If your doctor ordered a Small Bowel Follow through, this will require an additional time to evaluate the entire small bowel as the barium passes through.
